The Difference Between Deliverance and Recovery By Pastor Jerry Jenkins
There are many recovery programs in the United States today which are to help an individual stay in recovery one day at a time by working their program which tells them to look to God as they know Him or a Higher Power, which can be a light bulb or a door knob. The Addiction Free in Christ programs however is a total deliverance program based on God's Word. You see the Bible only talks about recovery 3 times, but deliverance 98 times. Our God is a God of salvation, deliverance and healing. Jesus said in John 8:31 & 32 "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” NKJV. Addiction Free in Christ was founded on that Scripture and John 14:6 where Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” The question is how can you find this Higher Power without going through to the door to God which is Jesus Christ? Who is the only way to God the Father. The freedom He was talking about is found in John 8:36 where He said “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” (Emphasis Mine) NKJV.
I became addiction free in Christ November 9th, 1986, at 51 years old a serious alcoholic with multiple addictions when I received the gift of salvation deliverance and healing through my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is referred to as being "Born Again." Jesus said in John 12:24 "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain." NKJV. What that is saying to us today is that we must die to our selfish sinful nature to receive this born again experience. That's when we receive salvation and deliverance from the desire of alcohol or drugs or whatever the addiction we were struggling with. Therefore since I have received this deliverance, if I would go to a meeting and say “Hi, I'm Jerry, an alcoholic” I would be making a statement that would be contrary to the Word of God. Now I would prefer to say: "Hi, I'm Jerry addiction free in Christ." That's what this program is based on. Another way a person can truly understand deliverance is by reading Romans 6:16 - 23 that says: “16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? 17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness. 20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. 22 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Emphasis Mine) NKJV.

The Difference Between the Addiction Free In Christ's Deliverance Program and a 12 Step Recovery Program
By Rev. Jerald F. Jenkins
A 12 step recovery program whether it be AA, NA, OA, Al-Anon, Celebrate Recovery or any other 12 step recovery program focuses on the problem: how much we drank, how much we used, how long it has been since I drank or used which has a tendency to draw the person back to the problem. Most of these programs above will tell an individual “once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic” or “once an addict, always an addict.” This gives the individual a hopeless outlook for their future. The National Institute on Drug Abuse says that addiction is a chronic disease similar to other chronic diseases such as type II diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disease. Most 12 step recovery programs and many counseling programs using psychiatry are based on this theory. This constantly has a person focused on the problem instead of the answer. The Bible says in Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.”
Now the Addiction Free in Christ Deliverance Program is based on the “Big Book” of God, which is God's Word. The Word of God tells us in Matthew 28:18 where Jesus is speaking and says “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” Then in John 8:36 Jesus said “36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” Then in 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us: “17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” The Bible tells us that a person is saved, delivered and healed through salvation, which means surrendering one's life to Jesus Christ, a person finds total deliverance and healing from the various problems, fears and addictions.
We focus on the answer and not the problem at the Addiction Free in Christ Outpatient and Aftercare programs which are available throughout the United States by contacting us at (217) 617-5577. This will draw a person away from the problem to the answer. At Addiction Free in Christ, we encourage an individual to not let their past dictate their future. The Bible also tells us about the wisdom of man and the theory of man in 1 Corinthians 2:5,7, & 9: “5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, 9 But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.'” Then again, the Bible tells us in Colossians 2:8-10: “8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power .”
You see addiction is a spiritual problem that cannot be solved by the theory of man. The only thing that can destroy addiction is the power of God through a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the power of Holy Spirit which will lead a person and guide them to total freedom from addiction.
